Following reports that Ben Affleck will be reprising the role of Batman in Aquaman and the Lost Kingdomrumor has it that the actor is being drafted in to replace Michael Keaton’s Dark Knight.
A few days ago it was revealed that Ben Affleck would return as Batman in Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom. The news came as a big surprise to fans, especially since the actor is believed to have only returned for the flash say goodbye to Bruce Wayne.
We know this movie will essentially create a new DC Extended Universe, with Michael Keaton replacing Affleck as the Caped Crusader. This was confirmed by bat girl set photos with the Batman star on set.
However, various release date changes have seen the HBO Max title push back the schedule, while the flash and the Aquaman the sequel was swapped when they were pushed into 2023. Needless to say, we need to see the Scarlet Speedster’s next adventure before Keaton starts to make his presence felt or any cameo makes no sense.
According to insider KC Walsh, “[It] looks like they are replacing [Michael Keaton] scenes with Affleck, remember [Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom] was originally supposed to come out after The Flash and audiences were confused by its inclusion.”
We had heard that Keaton was going to show up in Aquaman and the Lost Kingdomwhile rumors that Warner Bros. has plans for a Crisis on Infinite Earths the movie has been swirling around for a while now. The DCEU needs a restart, anyway, but it remains to be seen how much the studio has changed its plans in the wake of this Ezra Miller controversy.
It’s surprising that Affleck agreed to replace Keaton, though we can’t help but wonder if the actor has regained his faith in the role after the outpouring of love he received for Zack Snyder’s Justice League. Wait, it looks like he might stay on as the Dark Knight for the foreseeable future.
Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom is set to surface in theaters on March 17, 2023.
