FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – What some say is the best kept secret just got bigger. The Allen County market continues to grow.
The idea was born in 2020, when owners and founders Steve and Michelle Lebrecht saw the need for a market in the Huntertown area. The Marketplace began its first season last June at Huntertown Family Park with 31 vendors.
“It was a lot of work, we had to send a lot of emails but slowly we started getting responses,” Michelle said, “people liked the idea that we’re just a marketplace one once a month because it’s a side gig for a lot of our suppliers, they work full time, they make their stuff when they get home or on weekends, so once a month was perfect for them.
Now, the Saturday Market will feature 119 vendors selling a variety of items. Each market hosts around 3,500 to 4,000 guests. Michelle says the growth is due to word of mouth, sellers telling other sellers, and buyers sharing their experience as well.
“119 Vendors looks like this, but they are not regular vendors. You are not going to come to our market and find 6 honey vendors and 7 soap vendors. We work very hard to limit that to keep the market fresh for our customers, so there’s just a really good variety here and so if you’re looking for it, you’ll probably find it here,” Michelle said.
With two markets remaining for the season, the Owners are already planning next year. They want to add extra things to make the market look like a real event.
“Next year we want to try to add to that and bring in a few bigger sponsors to come in where maybe we can do something more for the kids, like even if it’s just a bouncy house or a mobile paddling pool during the warmer months. “, said Michelle.
The Saturday market will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Huntertown Family Park.
