Dixie D’Amelio Debuts Buzzed Head on the Red Carpet

Dixie D’Amelio isn’t afraid to take risks.

The social media personality, 21, debuted her brand new trendy cut at the 2022 Harper’s Bazaar Icons & Bloomingdale’s 150th Anniversary Party on Friday.

For the carpet, Dixie wore an embellished nude dress with side cutouts and natural makeup.

Also on Friday, she posted a video to her YouTube channel documenting her decision to make the cut. “I just want to start over,” she said at the start of the video, convincing her team to go along with the idea.

“We’re going to make it a moment,” she said. “I have black eyes, eyebrows and eyelashes, I feel like that would be fine.”

After sharing some inspirational photos with her sister Charli D’Amelio, 18, Dixie said, “I could do anything, I’ll do anything.” She added, “I just want to be a cool girl.”

When asked what she thought of the hair transformation, Charli responded favorably. “She keeps talking about it, either do it or shut up,” she said. Charli also added that she would never shave her head herself because she “doesn’t have a strong jawline all the time.”

In another scene from the video, mum Heidi D’Amelio, 50, also showed her support, adding that she too shaved her head when she was younger.

“I’m so excited,” she said, “it was very freeing.” She added, “You know what I’ve often had? A lot of people have asked me, ‘Oh, are you going through something?'”

Dixie agreed that people might think the same of her. “I’ve been sad lately but I don’t want to say anything because I don’t want anyone to think I’m having a nervous breakdown,” she said.

Heidi went on to detail the moment she decided to shave: “My sister was a hairdresser, but she didn’t do it, she was like ‘your head is flat in your back’ and she was right, but I didn’t. no need to look so when i moved to new york i shaved it off because no one could stop me.”

“I’ve wanted to do this since sixth grade,” Dixie said, adding that all three people she spoke to were supportive. “I can’t keep a secret,” she said.

Also in the video, Dixie and her team tried to plan their many events that day because she wanted the buzz to cut a surprise to the carpet at Harper’s Bazaar. “We’re trying to figure out how to shave my head, then put on a wig, then take the wig off and show the shaved head at the second event,” she said. “It’s going to be crazy, we’re going to make it work.”

When the day finally came, Dixie was joined by her crew and friends for the big moment. Her hairdresser, Laura Polko, then entered with the buzzer.

“What did I just do,” Dixie said at one point, looking at all the hair around her. “Oh my god, I have no hair.”

After Polko buzzed the whole thing, Dixie went into the bathroom and looked at herself in the mirror. “Oh my god,” she said, before asking Polko to go even shorter. “Holy shit, I really like that.”

When the cut was over, Dixie called her mom and sister to show off her new look. “Sounds phenomenal,” Heidi said on FaceTime.

Polko took to Instagram to celebrate the Dixie hair transformation. “Wow. @dixiedamelio love you…that was fun…” she captioned the post. “I’ll see you when your hair is back, but I love you and loved having that moment with you that you’ve been talking about since the day I met you.”
