Warning: spoilers for the television adaptation and advance booking!
Rarely does a TV show accurately depict the ups and downs of your 20s and all i know about love.
The Peacock series, based on Dolly Alderton’s memoir of the same name, follows childhood best friends Maggie (Emma Appleton) and Birdy (Bel Powley), with their college buddies Amara (Aliyah Odoffin) and Nell (Marli Siu), as they navigate bad dates, career issues, loss, and heartache, while partying as hard as they can.
But as anyone who’s finished the series knows, there wasn’t much party going on in the finale. Both Nell and Amara made rash decisions that are sure to have consequences, Birdy left the foursome’s shared home in search of a more adult life with her boyfriend, and Maggie, despite having an incredible 48-hour whirlwind romance at New York – was more lost and alone than ever. Pouring salt into the fans’ collective wound, the series’ final shot is Maggie walking into Birdy’s empty room, sitting in the corner and sobbing.
Suffice to say that many of us have done the same.
