Indiana Jones 5 Trailer Brings the House Down at D23

At the D23 Expo on Saturday, director James Mangold was on hand to show off the first images of the still-untitled Indiana Jones’ upcoming fifth adventure. The house has gone mad. And for good reason – that “Indiana Jones 5” footage looks amazing.

“I saw ‘Raiders of the Lost Ark’ in high school and that’s one of the reasons I became a director and one of my producers is Steven Spielberg who is one of my favorite filmmakers. of all time,” said Mangold, who took over directing. Spielberg’s film rights, said on stage.

“And Harrison Ford is one of my favorite actors of all time. And my songwriter is John Williams, one of the greatest songwriters of all time. It’s been an honor and a pleasure to collaborate with you on this. “It reminds me of the other wonderful addition to this cast, which is the phenomenal Phoebe Waller-Bridge. I was surrounded by immense talent, support, goodwill and guidance. I was living a fantasy I had, wondering what it would be like to do one of those pictures and honoring in my mind what those movies are for you and for me, trying to bring that back for next year.

The “Indiana Jones 5” trailer was gorgeous, showing off a bunch of great moments: Mads Mikkelsen as a Nazi, Indy riding the New York City subway, a chase that takes place in a ticker tape parade in Manhattan, and Sallah (played, once again, by John Rhys-Davies). We also see Phoebe Waller-Bridge’s character and the trailer ends with Indy pulling out her whip and slamming it against a bunch of bad guys, who quickly pull out a lot of guns. He dodges.

It looks like it really captures the spirit of the original three films, a spirit that was sadly missing in the last installment, “Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.”

After the trailer aired, a visibly emotional Ford took the stage. “Thank you for making these movies such an amazing experience for all of us,” Ford said, his voice shaking. “I’m very proud to say that this one is fantastic. And that’s one of the reasons…” Ford gestured to Phoebe.

Ford continued, “The Indiana Jones movies are about mystery and adventure, but they’re also about heart. I’m really, really happy that we have a really human story to tell and a movie that’s going to kick your ass. I’m glad to be here again for maybe… No, not maybe. That’s it. I won’t fall for you anymore. But thank you very much. Thanks to Mangold for picking up the pieces and making a spectacular, spectacular movie.

For her part, Waller-Bridge said, “I had the time of my life making this movie. I feel incredibly lucky and following this guy is exhausting. These films mean a lot to me too and Jim, you have protected and brought back everything people want and need from these films. I can’t wait for you to see it!”

“Indiana Jones 5” hits theaters on June 30, 2023.
