Songs like that, coupled with her unique sense of fashion, made her an icon that continues to influence artists today.

During a recent fan interaction on Instagram, Kelis took a moment to address a specific comparison between her style and Rihanna’s.

“I feel like Rihanna rode a wave created by Kelis,” one person wrote to the 42-year-old magazine. comments. In response, Kelis said, “Let’s not open this Pandora’s box today lol one step at a time my friend ❤️.”

While she didn’t outright say Rihanna copied her style, she certainly seemed to implicate her in her response. It looks like she just chose not to go, probably because she was already getting hot after blowing Beyoncé a song extract.

ICYMI: Kelis got angry with the Lemonade vocalist on song “Energy” from Beyoncé’s short story Renaissance album, saying he sampled Kelis’ song “Get Along With You” without her permission. She also took aim at Neptunes producers Pharrell Williams and Chad Hugo — two of Kelis’ biggest collaborators early in her career — who created and produced the song.

“My mind is blown too because the level of disrespect and utter ignorance from all 3 parties involved is staggering,” Kelis wrote on her Instagram food account, @bountyandfull. “Some people in this company have no soul or integrity and they have fooled everyone.”

However, some people were quick to point out that Kelis doesn’t even appear to be a credited artist on “Get Along With You,” nor does she appear to own her masters.

Ok #Kelis, that’s iconic so I’ll do my best not to disrespect him right now. She doesn’t own her masters, and to add insult to injury, she didn’t produce or write the song. The only things attached to the song are her voice and her name.

It’s not Beyoncé’s fault that Kelis doesn’t own the rights to her music. Nobody has to pass by you, my daughter. No one should ask your permission. Now go blow something nih.

I respect Kelis as an artist but his beef shouldn’t be with Beyonce but with the people who own the rights to his music.

So, having already faced such intense backlash, it seems like she’s holding back from making any further statements that could potentially go left. But we’ll see if she comes back to the subject soon.
