King Charles III Has Now Officially Been Proclaimed King

The proclamation of a monarch begins with senior members of parliament meeting to form the Council of Ascension without the presence of the king. They then confirm his title of king.

The king spoke of the loss of his mother and vowed to follow in her footsteps.

“I know how much you, the whole nation, and I think I can say the whole world, sympathize with me for the irreparable loss we have all suffered,” King Charles III told the audience. “It is the greatest consolation to me to know the sympathy expressed by so many to my sister and brothers and that such overwhelming affection and support must be extended to our entire family in our loss.”

Prince William also opened up about his grief in a statementsaying it will be a while before the loss of her grandmother is real.

“My grandmother said grief was the price we pay for love,” he said. “All the sadness we will feel in the weeks to come will be a testament to the love we felt for our extraordinary Queen.”

The ceremony ended with the King and Queen on the balcony with David White, King of Arms of the Garter, reading the main proclamation to the crowd.

“Three cheers for His Majesty the King,” he said, followed by “hip, hip, hooray” from the soldiers and cheers from the crowd gathered outside.
