Sunday marked the 21st anniversary of 9/11, one of the world’s deadliest terrorist attacks. Celebrities from around the world, including Kourtney Kardashian, Kelly Ripa and Tom Brady marked the poignant event with heartfelt tributes on social media.

Their messages honored the 2,977 innocent people who died in 2001, including 340 firefighters and 72 police officers, and more than 25,000 injured. The series of coordinated terrorist attacks on the United States saw two planes crash into Manhattan’s Twin Towers, while a third hit the Pentagon, just outside Washington DC. Live! with Kelly and Ryan talk show host Kelly Ripa paid his respects with a poignant photograph shared on his Instagram Story of a brilliant beam of light streaming into the sky from the World Trade Center Memorial in New York City. She simply wrote: “#11september” on the image.

The country singer re-shared a heartfelt message on her Instagram Story to mark the 21st anniversary of 9/11. The post, originally shared by the Tunnel 2 Towers Foundation, read: “We paid off the mortgages on the homes of 21 deceased first responder families across the country in honor of the 9/11 heroes who sacrificed their lives to bring others to safety when America was attacked.”
country singer Miranda Lambert is an avid animal lover, sharing her $3.4 million Tennesee home with her husband Brendan McLoughlin and several animals, including a 400-acre horse farm. Her 9/11 tribute re-sharing a message about the “forgotten” heroes of the attack was a fitting nod to her love for animals.
“9/11 will always be a day filled with memories. We would like to take a moment to pay tribute to the brave people and dogs who were there on that fateful day. It is estimated that approximately 300 dogs participated in the search and rescue efforts in Ground Zero after 9/11,” the post read.

American football quarterback Tom Brady shared a powerful photo of the American flag on his Instagram story, with the caption: “Today and always we remember 9/11.”
Founder and actress of Fabletics Kate Hudson chose not to pay tribute to him in words, instead choosing to share a stunning photo of the American flag draped between two cranes against the New York skyline on his Instagram story.
