Ne-Yo’s wife has filed for divorce, claiming he recently fathered a child with another woman.
days later publicly accusing the singer of cheatingCrystal Smith, who married Ne-Yo (real name: Shaffer Chimere Smith) in 2016, filed divorce papers in Atlanta this week, according to multiple outlets.
Smith, who shares three children with the “Because of You” singer, said the marriage was “irretrievably broken” and there was “no hope of reconciliation,” according to documents obtained by We Weekly. In addition to stating that he “committed the act of adultery”, she alleges that he “recently fathered a minor child with his lover”.
Smith said their official separation date was July 22 and noted that she was caring for their children: Isabella Rose, 1; Roman Alexander-Raj Smith, 4, Shaffer Chimere Jr., 6. She seeks primary physical custody of the children and joint legal custody as well as spousal support and alimony.
Ne-Yo also has two children — Madilyn Grace, 11, and Mason Evan, 9 — with ex Monyetta Shaw.
The future exes had a rocky marriage. In 2020, he filed for divorce, also saying the union was “irretrievably broken”. He later withdrew the request, crediting the COVID lockdown with helping bring them together. They welcomed their third child in 2021, then renewed their vows in an elaborate ceremony in April.
Over the weekend, Smith called things off again, using Instagram to publicly accuse her husband of cheating on her for the duration of their relationship.
“Eight years of lies and deceit,” she wrote. “Eight years of unknowingly sharing my life and my husband with many women who sell their bodies to him without protection. To say that I am heartbroken and disgusted is an understatement. Asking me to stay and accept it is absolutely foolish.” She said that aside from their children, their time together was nothing but “lost years and heartache”.
Ne-Yo responded on social media, saying“For the sake of our children, my family and I will meet our challenges behind closed doors” and ask fans to respect privacy at this time.
The singer has yet to publicly comment on his alleged paternity of another child. Yahoo has reached out to their rep and we’ll update this story if there’s a response.
