New York Islanders determined to show 2021-22 was a fluke.

The Islanders’ development/prospecting pre-camp has (apparently) begun, with the youngest players (apparently) on the ice today. This surely means that there will be information to share and discuss!

We can hope.

Islander News

As it’s mid-September and authorized team personnel are once again cleared to speak to the media, a trickle of stories has begun:

  • The Isles swear they have something to prove after last season. [Newsday]
  • Part of the hook for this story: A group of isles were at the Mets game, and Josh Bailey threw the first pitch. (Did the fans boo or sing the song?) And fear not: “Mets manager Buck Showalter had a long chat with Ledecky after his media availability before the game.” [Isles]
  • Lane Lambert says he senses players’ anger over how every single season has gone, and there will be “no excuses”. The pre-season snapshot book is in effect! [Post]
  • While “no position is set” {wink wink}, a fascinating competition between Sebastian Aho, Robin Salo and Dennis Cholowski could ensue. [Post]
  • It’s been a big season for future free agent Mathew Barzal. [Post]
  • Boy ! Talkin’ Isles talks to Johnny Boychuk, who can certainly discuss it. [Isles]
  • Here are photos of the islands visiting the Mets, if you need to see them. [Newsday]

Somewhere else

  • The Blackhawks, desperate for nostalgia and good feelings, will retire Marian Hossa’s No. 81 unless a skin condition forces him to retire first. [TSN]
  • Why the F is this news? And why are they aggregated (and I guess we re-aggregate them)? “Nazem Kadri reportedly turned down a six-year offer from another club worth $8.5m AAV early enough in free agency.” [TSN]
  • PTOs: Eric Staal gets the role of Thornton in Florida, Carp boy Calvin de Haan gets a PTO in Carolina and, of course, you know Thomas Hickey will be in New Jersey. [NHL]
  • WHAT IF LAST SEASON’S ATLANTIC UPPER HALF FAIL? A September presentation. [Sportsnet]
  • MacKenzie Weegar says his new team (the Flames) is better than his old team (the Panthers). So vulgar. [NHL]
  • The Riveters will now play in a mega mall in New Jersey. [ESPN] (I’m not in or from the area. There really is a mega mall called “American Dream”? Like, in real life? Are you sure this isn’t an episode of The Simpsons?)
