The Queen’s death has seen every member of the Royal Family below Charles move up the line of succession – and for Princess Beatrice, it will likely mean an important new role.

The eldest daughter of Prince Andrew and his ex-wife Sarah Ferguson is set to become a councilor of state, which would give her the power to replace King Charles if he is overseas or struck down inability.

Under the Regency Act 1937, a monarch’s spouse and the next four people on the throne can hold the position, as long as they are over 21.

Queen Elizabeth’s state advisers were Charles, Prince William, Prince Harry and Prince Andrew, as well as her husband, Prince Philip, until his death in April 2021.

But with Charles’s accession to the throne, there is now a place to be filled, and it should be filled by Princess Beatrice.

While she is ninth in line to the throne – with the children of Prince William and Prince Harry all ranking above her – the 34-year-old is the fourth over the age of 21.

In this role, she would be allowed to attend Privy Council meetings, sign routine documents and receive credentials from new ambassadors to the UK, according to Royal.uk.

However, there are certain tasks Councilors of State cannot perform, including Commonwealth matters, dissolving Parliament (unless specifically requested by the King), creating peers and appointing a prime minister.

Camilla, who assumes the role of queen consort – the wife of a king – will also automatically be able to act in his absence.

Princess Beatrice and her younger sister Princess Eugenie have yet to make a public statement about the Queen’s death, but Beatrice’s husband, Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi, posted a tribute on Instagram.

The property mogul described the Queen as an ‘incredible woman’ and noted the ‘amazing mark she has left around the world’.

“She was the rock on which modern Britain was built,” he wrote.

“I feel very lucky that our little ones got to spend some wonderful time with her this summer. Rest is (sic) Peace Your Majesty. We will miss you so much. Heartbroken.”

The couple, who wed in July 2020, welcomed a daughter, Sienna Elizabeth Mapelli Mozzi, in September 2021. Mozzi also has a 6-year-old son, Christopher Woolf, from a previous relationship.
