It is said that Queen Elizabeth made sure before her death that one of her most trusted confidants would be allowed to live in her house of grace and favor in Windsor.

Hairdresser Angela Kelly, 64, the daughter of a Liverpool shipyard worker, has likely become the late British monarch’s best friend after she was chosen to join royal staff for her fashion expertise.

Part of her remuneration was a house of grace and favor a short walk from Windsor Castle so she could be close to Her Majesty, who died “peacefully” at her home in Balmoral on September 8 at the age of 96.

A source told the Mail on Sunday that Angela was apparently now allowed to keep her at home: “The Queen was very clear that she was close to Angela and wanted to look after her people.” Staff who work for a British ruler would normally only have a month’s notice after the end of their reign before being redeployed to another royal household or having to seek other employment.

Angela began working as an assistant dresser in the Royal Household in 1994 before becoming close to the Queen, taking on a role as a ‘lady-in-waiting’ who would also advise the monarch, one of her more recent titles being that of personal assistant. and seamstress to the Queen. She was so favored by the monarch that Angela was granted unprecedented clearance to secure a three-book deal about her life and work with the
royals, with two of the books already published and another forthcoming.

Palace sources told the Mail on Sunday that Angela would ‘often sit with the Queen, making her laugh and updating Her Majesty on the latest drama twists’ as the monarch’s mobility deteriorated in her final months.

An insider told the publication that then-Prince Charles had met them: “The Prince of Wales came to see his mother one day and was surprised that Angela had her own rooms there where she would watch television strong enough.”

Angela urged the Queen to visit the Coronation Street set in Manchester when the ITV studio celebrated its 60th anniversary in July 2021 – while wearing an Angela Kelly outfit in a bold teal with a matching hat.

The dresser revealed how the visit went in her second autobiography, The Other Side of the Coin, with Angela saying in the book: “She’s not looking at Coronation Street, but I filled her in. I was thrilled that the queen has chosen my outfit and my hat to wear for the
an event.”

The book also told how Angela and a vital team of royal staff formed the ‘HMS Bubble’ around the Queen in a fight to stop her catching Covid. She also opened “Kelly’s Salon” on lockdown so she could style the monarch as well as her dressing.
