real Madrid defeated Juventus 2-0 Saturday night at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, Calif., with goals from Karim Benzema and Marco Asensio.
Benzema scored a solid penalty to break the deadlock in the half opening.
The Frenchman found the net in the first moments of the match but the the goal was disallowed due to an obvious offside violation.
There was no need to VAR interference as the linesman was sure of Benzema’s illegal position.
Benzema opened the scoring in the 19th minute with an icy finish from the repair point.
The referee awarded the penalty to Madrid after Vinicius Jr. was knocked down from behind inside the box.
Real Madrid take first pre-season win
Real Madrid controlled possession at the end of the first 45 minutes, with Juventus’ only dangerous play coming courtesy of Leonard Bonucciwhose free kick pierced the crossbar.
Juventus midfielder Juan Cuadrado replaced Angel Di Maria to start the second half, with the Argentine failing to make an impact against his former team.
At minute 63, the head coach of Real Madrid Carlo Ancelotti made 11 substitutions, including Asensio taking the pitch in place of Federico Valverde.
Five minutes later, Jesus Vallejo found Asensio inside the box for an easy push into goal that put Madrid by two.
Real Madrid failed to win on their pre-season tour of the United States, losing to FCBarcelona and stick against Club Americabefore beating Juventus.
