Royals Acquire Anthony Misiewicz - MLB Trade Rumors

The Mariners announced they had traded the left-hander Anthony Misiewicz to the Royals for cash considerations. The southpaw had been designated for an assignment yesterday.

Misiewicz, 27, appeared to have a fine escape in the 2020 season, pitching 20 innings out of the Seattle bullpen during this shortened campaign with a 4.05 ERA, with a ball rate at 28% ground, a solid 7.2% walk rate, and an excellent 30.1% strikeout rate. Unfortunately, he couldn’t quite carry that over into later seasons as his ERA soared to 4.61 in 2021 and here in 2022. His strikeout rate fell to 22.5% last year and dropped again to 14% here in 2022. He got an option for Triple-A in June and fared better in a small 12 1/3 innings sample, recording a 3.65 ERA, strikeout rate of 23.6%, a walking rate of 10.9% and a ground ball rate of 51.5%.

For the Royals, they will add a controllable reliever to their left-handed bullpen depth chart. Misiewicz entered the season with exactly two years of MLB service and will not be able to cross the three-year mark this year because he has already spent about six weeks in the minors. They can keep him in the minors and see if he can get into a good rhythm. Amir Garrett is currently the only left-hander in the big league club’s bullpen, meaning there’s a path for Misiewicz to get back on the roster.
