Sylvester Stallone Slams ‘Rocky’ Drago Spinoff as ‘Greed’

Sylvester Stallone came out swinging on TheWrap news broken Friday that a “Rocky” spin-off based on the character of Drago is in the works at MGM and he is not part of it.

“Heartbreaker…I just found out…ONCE AGAIN THE PATHETIC 94-YEAR-OLD PRODUCER and HIS SELFLESS, USELESS CHILDREN are once again choosing what’s left OF THE BONES of another wondrous character!!!” Stallone fumed in an Instagram post on Saturday night.

He continued, “Seriously, how do you look at weasels in the mirror???. I’m sorry to the FANS, I apologize to the FANS, I never meant for ROCKY to be exploited FOR THIS GREED.. # no shame #sad daytime #Parasite.”

Stallone then took to the second round on Twitter, posting, “I would like to congratulate Irwin Winkler and his family for beating another wonderful character into the ground! # no shame,” referring to producer “Rocky” who won an Oscar in 1976 when he won Best Picture.

TheWrap learned exclusively on Friday that screenwriter Robert Lawton is set to write the “Rocky” spin-off “Drago” for MGM. Plot details are, of course, being kept under wraps at this time, but what we can tell you is that Russian fighter Ivan Drago (Dolph Lundgren) will be at the center of the story. Ivan was first seen as the ultimate antagonist in 1985’s ‘Rocky IV’, with his son Viktor (Florian Munteanu) filling the ‘villain’s shoes’ in 2018’s ‘Creed 2’.

TheWrap has reached out to Stallone for additional comment.
